Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has designed, fabricated, erected and commissioned a new normalising furnace in its plate mill.

ROURKELA: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has designed, fabricated, erected and commissioned a new normalising furnace in its plate mill.
The furnace has the capacity of normalising 10,000 tonnes of plates with thickness ranging from eight m to 63 mm and from 1500 to 2950 mm.
Improved drive system of heath rolls, ac drive systems and controls, computerised instrument and process control were the special features of 45 M long and 3.3 M wide furnace, lined with 465 tonnes of refractory bricks, RSP sources said on Monday.
The project was implemented keeping in view the increased market demand for normalised plates. The plant would benefit by an improved sales realisation of this product, the sources said.
The project was executed completely in-house with the combined efforts of the design department, plate bill, civil engineering, planning and coordination services, repair and construction (mechanical), instrumentation, the dy management, refractories and material management departments.
High technicality was maintained during the work process. The erection job was completed during the months when the production and dispatch were at its peak. But the normal work of the plant was not hampered for a single day for the new project, the sources said.
Zero accident during the entire period was another highlight of the project execution, they said.
RSP Managing Director B N Singh lauded the high standard of house-keeping in the steel plant describing it as one of the best plant of Steel Authority of India Limited.
