RSP achieves record production in April-July period
The Rourkela Steel Plant continues to operate its major production facilities well over their rated capacity, achieving its best-ever production.
The plant produced 0.747 million tonnes of hot metal, 0.709 million tonnes of crude steel and 0.683 million tonnes of saleable steel, corresponding to 112 per cent, 112 per cent and 122 per cent of the rated production capacity.
These figures represent the best-ever production at the plant for the April-July period since inception, RSP sources said here today.
A number of units in the finishing mills of the steel plant also performed with distinction, achieving their best-ever performance for the April-July period.
This includes production of 1,58,579 tonnes of plates, 5,49,211 tonnes of hot rolled coils (total), 1,08,390 tonnes of hot rolled plates and 21,299 tonnes of electric resistance weld (ERW) pipes.
With a view to improve profitability, the steel plant had commenced the fiscal with strategy to maximise production volumes to bring down cost of production while also improving techno-economic parameters.
The record production is significant, given that April to July is normally a period reserved for carrying out annual maintenance and repair activities.
