Rourkela Steel plant has inaugurated a new Ore Bedding and Blending Complex. The new unit will help supply raw material to a new blast furnace.

Rourkela Steel plant has inaugurated a new Ore Bedding and Blending Complex. The new unit will help supply raw material to a new blast furnace (No.5) coming up as a part of the plant's expansion to 4.5 million tonne of hot metal capacity from present level of 2 mt. The augmentation of the Ore Bedding and Blending facility will thus be essential to the plant's operations post expansion, when raw material requirement is slated to increase to 12 million tonne per annum (mtpa) from the existing level of 5 mtpa.

The new OBB complex was inaugurated by SAIL chairman C S Verma. S.S.Mohanty, Director (Technical) and T.S.Suresh, Director (Projects and Business Planning), SAIL alongwith G. S. Prasad, CEO, RSP were among the officers present on the occasion.

The OBB facility will receive, unload, stack and blend, reclaim and finally transport the raw materials required for Blast Furnce-5. Besides it will also supply base mix to the new Sinter Complex which has already been completed as a part of the expansion. Transportation of Flue dust, Mill scale, crushed coal and flux for trimming addition to new Sinter Complex, transportation of Calcining Plant grade limestone and dolomite to consuming units.
