Nippon Steel, Tata Steel discuss joint production
The companies are likely to spend about 50 billion yen ($423 million) to make thin-sheet steel mainly used in automotive bodies at a jointly built plant using Nippon's technology.
TOKYO: Nippon Steel, the world's second-largest steelmaker, has started talks with Tata Steel about meeting rising demand from companies in India, including automakers.
No details had been decided, Nippon Steel, based in Tokyo, said in a statement on Tuesday.
The companies are likely to spend about 50 billion yen ($423 million) to make thin-sheet steel mainly used in automotive bodies at a jointly built plant using Nippon's technology, Nikkei English News reported.
The plant would be able to produce about one million metric tons of steel a year, Nikkei said.
