Representatives of world's largest steel conglomerate Arcelor-Mittal is expected to arrive here on July 17, to assess the facilities available in the state for setting up the 12 MT steel plant proposed by L N Mittal on Friday.
BHUBANESWAR: Representatives of world's largest steel conglomerate Arcelor-Mittal is expected to arrive here on July 17, to assess the facilities available in the state for setting up the 12 MT steel plant proposed by L N Mittal on Friday.
The Mittal Steel team was likely to be headed by the company's Chief of India Operations Sanat Mishra, a highly placed source said.
The development assumes significance in the wake of the Jharkhand government saying that it had already assured availability of resources for Mittal's proposed 12 million tonne steel plant.
Jharkhand Mines and Geology Secretary S K Satpathy had told media on Sunday that it had sent a 'letter of comfort' to Mittal promising him 600 million tonnes of iron ore required for his proposed plant in the state.
On Friday, Mittal, who flew here directly from London along with his son and the group's Chief Financial Officer Aditya Mittal, had proposed a 12 million steel plant with an approximate investment of between Rs 30,000 crore and Rs 40,000 crore.
"Chief Secretary Subas Pani will finalise the composition of the core group in a day or two. It would aid Arcelor-Mittal officials to obtain all base-level data for their steel project," Orissa Steel and Mines Minister Padmanabha Behera told media on Monday.
Behera, however, sought to clarify that there would not be any problem concerning iron ore availability for the global leader.
