Mittal, Arcelor to attend steel conference
The chiefs of Mittal Steel and rival Arcelor, whose managements are holding discussions on the former's $33 billion takeover bid, will be participating in an industry conference that gets underway in New York on Tuesday.
It was not immediately known whether Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and Arcelor CEO Guy Dolle would carry forward last week's discussions between their managements on the bid.
Arcelor had last week vaunted its controversial plans to merge with the Russian group Severstal, after rejecting Mittal Steel's bid while signalling that it might welcome an improved offer.
Mittal, who has maintained that he had made a compelling offer and has no plans to offer more, is likely to justify his company's bid for Arcelor at the conference 'Steel Success Strategies XXI', which would be attended by over 1,200 delegates including from steel company officials, suppliers and vendors, plus industry analysts, bankers and financiers, say market analysts.
Mittal, whose company is the world's largest steel maker, is the first guest on the agenda and the highlight speaker of the conference, whose focus is "Steel's New Game: Bigger Bets - Bigger Jackpots'.
Dolle would deliver the luncheon address on Tuesday.
