The meeting was attended by Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister TG Bharat, senior state officials, Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC, and Dilip Oommen, CEO of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Corporation. Discussions revolved around the establishment of the new steel plant, the union minister said.
On Monday too, Kumaraswamy had engaged in discussions with senior officials and Minister Bharat about the project.
“Promoting new investments in the steel sector is essential for achieving self-reliance in domestic steel production, reducing dependence on imported steel, and realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of producing 300 million tonnes of steel annually by 2030. In line with this vision, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Corporation has stepped forward to invest in Andhra Pradesh, and the central government has responded positively,” Kumaraswamy said.
The meeting covered several critical aspects, including the scale of capital investment, job creation, and steel production capacity. The minister also sought additional inputs from senior officials, a statement from the union minister's office said.
Kumaraswamy mentioned that he had previously held multiple discussions with AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu about the new steel plant. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Corporation has proposed constructing an integrated steel plant with an annual production capacity of 17.8 million tonnes in the Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh.
