JSW Steel production up 40 per cent in May at 10.13 lakh tonnes
JSW Steel today reported a 40 per cent growth in May production at 10.13 lakh tonnes on higher flat products output.
The company, which manufactures steel in three locations -- Vijaynagar, Salem and Dolvi -- had produced 7.24 lakh tonnes crude steel in the year-ago period, it said in a statement.
JSW Steel did not include production of Dolvi plant, the facility it had bought from Ispat Industries, into production figure of May, 2012.
"Since the appointed date for the scheme of amalgamation and arrangement was July 1, 2012, the production numbers for May, 2012 did not include the production from Dolvi unit," it said.
Meanwhile, in May, 2013, production of flats products, which find application in automotive and consumer durables among others, was up by 57 per cent during the month to stand at 8.06 lakh tonnes against 5.12 million tonnes a year ago.
JSW Steel's shares were trading at Rs 681.40 apiece, down 0.50 per cent during the afternoon trade in the BSE.
