Jharkhand to take a call on Arcelor Mittal project in ’07
The state which has lost the battle to Orissa will take a call on the Arcelor Mittal project in the New Year.
State deputy chief minister and industry minister Sudhir Mahato told ET the state government will take atleast a month to decide on the proposed project. “Our government is yet to come out with a new industry-friendly policy and a rehabilitation and re-settlement policy. These policies will be in place early next year. Till then, we will not take a final call on any of the MoUs signed during the Arjun Munda regime,” said Mr Mahato.
About the controversial issue of allotting the Chiria mines to the Mittals, Mr Mahato added that the issue was under litigation and therefore it was not possible to settle the is-sue in any other way. The Madhu Koda led UPA government in Jharkhand had recently offered the Ankua iron ore mines to Arcelor Mittal. But this was rejected by the Mittals. Mr Mahato, however, said there was no question of allocating the Chiria mines to the company.
