LUDHIANA: Industry organisations on Monday held a protest here against the "steep hike" in steel prices, saying industries using it as raw material had been crippled.

Representatives of more that 50 industry associations gathered here and burnt effigies of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Minister for Steel Ram Vilas Paswan.

Varinder Kapoor, General Secretary of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association, said, "In the recent past there has been a hike in the prices of hot-rolled coils, rounds and MS rounds to the tune of rupees seven thousand per metric tonne.

Cycle, Cycle parts, hand tool manufacturers and other engineering products makers are unable to bear the burden," he said.
