Iisco Steel Plant produces first batch of iron nuggets from sinter plant

KOLKATA: Iisco Steel Plant, Burnpur commenced hot production from the sinter plant with the first batch of iron nuggets being produced on Monday. With this, the integrated commissioning of the entire plant moves a step closer to reality. "Our efforts have begun to yield fruits. It is a matter of great pride for all of us to be able to achieve this. This would never have been possible without the continuous effort of each one of us," N Kothari CEO, Iisco Steel Plant said on the occasion.

The initiation of hot production at the Sinter Plant is a precursor to the parallel units such as Coke Oven, Coke Dry Cooling Plant, Power Blowing Station, Wire Rod Mill, Blast Furnace, Basic Oxygen Furnace and Continuous Casting Plant which are all in advance stages of completion and commissioning.

The 3.8 million tonne per annum (mtpa) capacity Sinter Plant at ISP is one of the key packages of the 2.5 mt per annum expansion project. Sinter plant is one of the most important units of a modern steel plant since a 10% increase in sinter increases blast furnace productivity by anywhere between 2 to 2.5%.
