Future of Arcelor Mittal's Dofasco not yet settled

Mittal Steel, merging with Arcelor to form a global steel giant, has said it wants to sell Arcelor's Dofasco to ThyssenKrupp.

BRUSSELS: No final decision has been taken over the future of Arcelor Mittal's Canadian unit Dofasco and Lakshmi Mittal's appointment as chief executive will have no bearing on the outcome, Lakshmi Mittal said on Monday.

"I don't think that this has any connection with Dofasco. As we have explained before, the board has taken a decision and the board has informed the foundation and now the stichting (foundation) has to work on this and they have to take their decision in the interests of all the stakeholders," he told a telephone news conference.

Mittal Steel, merging with Arcelor to form a global steel giant, has said it wants to sell Arcelor's Dofasco to ThyssenKrupp, but the decision on the unit's future will be taken before the end of November by a Dutch foundation set up by Arcelor during the takeover battle.
