First phase survey completed at POSCO plant site

Orissa government on Saturday successfully completed socio-economic survey and land demarcation in one of the three gram panchayats located in the proposed plant site of POSCO.

PARADIP: Orissa government on Saturday successfully completed socio-economic survey and land demarcation in one of the three gram panchayats located in the proposed plant site of POSCO near here, official sources said.

Jagatsinghpur District Collector P K Meherda said the survey and land demarcation work at four villages in Gada Kujang gram panchayat area was completed by this noon.

"A total of 1,035 families were surveyed since February seven," he said adding efforts were on to extend activities to two other gram panchayats of Dhinkia and Nuagaon.

Survey team comprising 60 Revenue department officials were planning to begin survey work from Matha Sahi village under Nuagaon gram panchayat. Officials of the Works and Housing department today joined the Revenue officials to access types of houses in the proposed plant site area.

While the government had earlier decided not to include "trouble prone" Dhinkia gram panchayat from the ongoing process, it was, of late, contemplating going for it in view of unexpected decreasing resistance from the villagers, sources said.

Sources, however, said that the government officials failed to carry out survey of 13 families at Nolia Sahi village due to opposition.
