Explore solar power: SAIL Chairman CS Verma

Verma emphasised the need for immediate measures for substantial reduction in cost and augmentation of the production level.

CHENNAI: Underlining the need for tapping renewable energy, Steel Authority of India Ltd Chairman CS Verma has advised officials to explore solar energy.

During his recent visit to Salem Steel Plant, Verma said steps were needed for setting up the captive power plant to address the long term energy requirement both in terms of cost and availability.

A company statement, quoting him, said the Chairman urged the officials to explore tapping environment friendly solar energy.

Against the backdrop of stiff competition both from domestic and international stainless steel producers, Verma emphasised the need for immediate measures for substantial reduction in cost and augmentation of the production level.

Elaborating about the long term strategy for the growth of the plant, he stressed the need to improve the performace and 'bottomline' of the Salem plant during the current financial year.

For expediting the growth and development of the plant and to improve the market share in cold rolled stainless steel products, Verma directed officials for the early commissioning of the third Sendzimir mill, the release said.
