"This expansion is a testament to India's commitment to self-reliance in steel production and aligns with Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi's vision of a 300 MTPA steel industry by 2030. The infusion of capital and technological advancements will bolster the steel sector and contribute significantly to India's economic growth," an official statement said here.
Under the plan, a new blast furnace and other facilities will be built to facilitate the production expansion. "The plant is now set for a massive overhaul with a new 4500 cubic meter blast furnace, a thin slab casting and direct rolling facility, a calcining plant, a stamp-charged coke oven battery, and a sinter plant expansion," he added.
The expansion plan is also likely to create employment opportunities, 10,000 indirect and 2,500 permanent jobs, in the region.
The minister also underscored the greening efforts undertaken by the steel plant such as 30 megawatts (MW) of floating solar power generation and 20 MW of land-based solar power.
