New Delhi: India may impose antidumping duty on imports of certain steel products from the EU, Japan, the US and Korea for five years to protect domestic players from cheap imports.

The commerce and industry ministry has recommended imposition of the anti-dumping duty on the product from these countries and rejected the demand to exclude products based on their quality, citing circumvention of the duty.

“The interested parties have argued that non-prime materials should be excluded from the PUC (product under consideration),” the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) said in its findings.

Non-prime steel or second-grade steel is not tested as per the relevant standards specification.
