The revenue last year stood at Rs 1,400 crore, of which over 50 per cent was realised through exports, Chief Executive (Export Marketing) R Rangarajan said.

The company, part of the Mumbai-based Supreme Industries Group, has a strong export market across 85 countries in Europe, North America and Asia. Some Latin American and African countries have also evinced interest in procuring polystyrene from the group, Rangrajan told reporters.

Polystyrene is a delicate material used mainly for disposable food services and also in manufacturing home appliances like television sets, refrigerators and air conditioning units.

The company also produces PP compound (Poly Propylene) which is largely consumed by the automobile industry.

The firm would soon come out with an insulation material - X-PS that would substantially reduce energy consumption in commercial and residential buildings, he said.
