RIL to restart fire-hit oil processing unit

Reliance Industries Ltd has said it is likely to repair and restart the fire-damaged secondary oil processing unit at its Jamnagar refinery by this month-end.

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Ltd has said it is likely to repair and restart the fire-damaged secondary oil processing unit at its Jamnagar refinery by this month-end.

"We have started rebuilding the damaged unit... the damage is not of such a large magnitude as was projected. It will take 2-3 weeks to restart the unit," RIL CEO (Oil and Gas) P M S Prasad told reporters here.

The Jamnagar refinery's one of the vacuum gas oil unit, which removes sulphur from oil products, was shut on October 25 after a fire broke out.

Prasad said there has been no production loss due to the fire and the refinery was producing LPG at its normal capacity of 7,200 tonnes per day.

The fire had no impact on major equipments. The company had earlier stated that it was utilising capacity at a second hydro treater to ensure stable production.
