Saint-Gobain buys float glass plant from Sezal Glass for Rs 686 crore.

CHENNAI: Saint-Gobain Glass India Ltd has acquired a float glass plant from Sezal Glass for Rs 686 crore. The company would use the facility as its manufacturing hub for Western India, a top official said.

The acquisition is on a slump sale basis. Sezal Glass' float glass plant is located in the district of Bharuch in Gujarat. Brought on stream in February 2010, the plant has a daily production capacity of 550 metric tonnes of flat glass to supply to the architectural market, Saint-Gobain said.

“We would be making additional investments of Rs 100 crore in the acquired plant for raw materials and it would be used as a manufacutring hub for West India,” B Santhanam, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain India, said. He pointed out that that the company could have set up a plant on its own, but it would have taken three years.


The company is currently building a Rs 1,000-crore float glass plant in Bhiwadi in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. The plant, to commence operations in 2012, will have a capacity of 3 lakh tonnes per year.
