Indefinite strike by HPCL contractual workers

Contractual workers of Hindustan Paper Construction Limited resorted to indefinite strike to protest against non-payment of their due salaries.

MORIGAON ( ASSAM): Contractual workers of Hindustan Paper Construction Limited ( HPCL) today resorted to indefinite strike to protest against non-payment of their due salaries.

More than 200 contractual workers of HPCL's Jagiroad Paper Mill today began their strike to protest against the non-payment of salaries as recommended by central labour department, Contractual Workers' Union President Gautam Boro and General Secretary Atul Chandra Kalita said.

The union leaders alleged that the workers have been paid only Rs 3,500 per month despite the labour departments of both the central and state governments several reminders to HPCL authorities to pay their salaries on the revised scale.

The strike would continue till they receive the revised pay-scale, they added.
