Jammu & Kashmir government has started a special air courier service for Kargil district in Ladakh region that remains cut off from rest of the state during winter season due to closure of the Srinagar-Leh national highway.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government has started a special air courier service for Kargil district in Ladakh region that remains cut off from rest of the state during winter season due to closure of the Srinagar-Leh national highway.

The decision was taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Ali, who is also the local MLA of Kargil, an official spokesman said here on Thursday.

The minister along with other senior administrative officials reviewed the arrangements regarding operating of courier service of AN-32 planes from Srinagar airport to Kargil.

It was decided that state road transport corporation would provide buses to ferry passengers from Kargil House here to Srinagar airport and vice versa, the spokesman said.

Security equipment and weighing machine would be installed at the Haj terminal, which would be used for convenience of the passengers of the courier service, he said.

In case of delay or postponement of any flight of the courier service, the passengers would be provided refreshment, he added.
