Thermal coal price not to go up: Bagrodia
The price of thermal-grade coal will not be hiked and will be made available to all, minister of state for coal Santosh Bagrodia has said.
Production and distribution would be strengthened to make coal available to all, Mr Bagrodia said, who recently took over as the MoS coal. Coal India chairman Partha S Bhattacharya said prices of thermal coal would not be increased but the company would hike the price of coking coal.
Bharat Coking Coal, a Coal India subsidiary, had last week said it would renegotiate coking coal price with Steel Authority of India at Rs 6,300 per tonne from the present Rs 4,500 per tonne. Bharat Coking Coal chairman-cum-managing director A K Paul had stated Rashtriya Ispat Nigam and Durgapur Projects have agreed to pay the enhanced price of coking coal.
