Tata Metaliks scouts for iron-ore and coal blocks

Tata Metaliks, the country's largest pig iron manufacturing company, plans to acquire iron ore mining and coking blocks as part of raw material linkages for captive use.

KOLKATA: Tata Metaliks, the country's largest pig iron manufacturing company, plans to acquire iron ore mining and coking blocks as part of raw material linkages for captive use.

The company is looking forward for an iron ore mining lease in Karnataka and to set up an end use plant, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

Tata Metaliks has also signed a non-binding MoU with Madhya Pradesh government for allotment of coking coal blocks, it added.

Under the expansion plans, the company has applied for 350-acre land near its existing plant at Kharagpur in West Bengal, the statement said.

Tata Metaliks had posted a standalone net profit of Rs 25.5 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2008, up 66.02 per cent, from Rs 15.3 crore in the same quarter last year.
