Rourkela Steel Plant maximising revenue by catering to sister steel plants

ROURKELA: Shops Complex of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved revenue maximisation through a number of innovative and enterprising jobs being carried out by its employees.

The Foundry department, an integral part of the complex, develops and supplies slag ladle cups for Bhilai Steel Plant and Durgapur Steel Plant regularly.

In 2013-14, the department received orders for supplying 6 slag ladle cups from Bhilai Steel Plant and 4 slag ladle cups from Durgapur Steel Plant, RSP sources said today.

The Unit has already developed 2 slag cups for Bhilai Steel Plant and 3 slag cups for Durgapur Steel Plant.

RSP is earning revenue worth Rs 24 lakh for each slag cup from Durgapur Steel Plant and Rs 22 lakh for each slag cup from Bhilai Steel Plant.

The unit has been getting the support of the Structural and Fabrication Shop, Repair Shop (Mechanical) as well as Steel Melting Shop and Field Machinery Maintenance Departments in its endeavour.

Apart from the slag ladle cups, the Foundry Department is regularly producing castings for Blast Furnace No.5, Hammer Head and Liner for OBBP, Star Breaker and Liner for Sinter Plant Complex and other ferrous and non ferrous castings as per requirement of the plant.

All these enterprising endeavours help RSP accrue savings of about Rs 20 crore per annum, they said.
