Panel shortlists two names for NMDC top job

A selection committee has shortlisted two candidates - Narendra Kothari, CEO of Burnpur plant and Tapas Kumar Lahiri, Bharat Coking Coal's CMD to head NMDC.

NEW DELHI: A selection committee has shortlisted two candidates - Narendra Kothari, CEO of Burnpur plant and Tapas Kumar Lahiri, Bharat Coking Coal's CMD to head NMDC, India's largest iron ore producer. The two candidates have emerged from a long list of 15 applicants that included four NMDC directors who were also interviewed for the top post.

NMDC is deprived of a fulltime chairman ever since Rana Som retired in December 2011. N K Nanda, Director (Technical) is reported to have been the ministry's preferred candidate, and had a short stint as acting chairman, before he was replaced by Steel Authority of India's C S Verma who was has been holding fort since then.
