NLC's 250 MW thermal unit to be commissioned in September

NEYVELI: The 250 MW second thermal expansion unit at Neyveli will be commissioned from September 2013, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today said.

A number of mine and thermal unit projects have been taken up simultaneously and a very ambitious growth plan has also been drawn up for implementation, he told reporters here.

NLC is one of the best public sector units in the country and a best profit making company in the past 16 years, he said.

The minister reviewed the works at the Neyveli Lignite Mine thermal power station besides implementation of schemes. He also presided over a meeting of NLC directors and officials.

NLC Chairman B Surendra Mohan, Directors R Kandasamy (Mine, Planning and Project), V Rajagopal (Power), S K Acharya (HR) and Rakesh Kumar, ( Finance) provided the details of the implementation of schemes.

Jaiswal asked officials to complete work and commission the 500 MW (250X2) thermal power station (II) expansion unit for which foundation stone was laid on February 4, 2006.

Coal Secretary S K Srivatsava said NLC will setup a 4,000 MW coastal based thermal power project at Sirkali near Chidambaram, for which coal purchase tender works started.
