NLC acquires Asia's largest spreader

The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) today said it has acquired Asia's largest spreader for its Mine-II expansion project.

CUDDALORE: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) today said it has acquired Asia's largest spreader for its Mine-II expansion project.

The 20,000 tons per hour spreader weighs approximately 3,000 tons. Its discharge boom is 90 metres and its receiving boom is 45 metres, a company press release said.

The equipment was supplied by TAKRAF India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of German firm TAKRAF, on a turnkey basis at a cost of about Rs 114 crore, it said.

The release said that NLC has three open cast mines of 24 million tons of lignite per annum (MTPA) capacity and three pit head thermal power stations generating 2,490 MW.

The company said it proposed to expand its Mine-II capacity from 10.5 MTPA to 15 MTPA and the capacity of its thermal power station-II from 1,470 MW to 1,970 MW at a total cost of Rs 4,200 crore.
