Neyveli Lignite FY14 output at 266 lakh tonnes exceeds target

NEW DELHI: Neyveli Lignite Corporation today said lignite production climbed to 266.09 lakh tonnes in the just-concluded financial year, exceeding the target set by the government.

"Neyveli Lignite completed the year 2013-14, breaking its own records in...lignite excavation and power generation," the state-owned company said in a filing to the BSE.

The Tamil Nadu-based company operates three opencast lignite mines in Neyveli and one in Rajasthan. It runs power stations with a total installed capacity of 2,740 megawatts.

Lignite production was the highest since the company was set up, as was power generation at 19,988.73 million units, Neyveli Lignite said.

Total lignite production from all mines during 2013-14 exceeded the target of 252 lakh tonnes fixed by the government by 5.59 per cent. Output rose 1.47 per cent from the previous financial year, Neyveli Lignite said.
