New coal units awaiting green nod: Pratik Patil

Minister of State for Coal Pratik Patil said proposals for setting up new coal facilities are pending for want of environmental clearance.

KARIMNAGAR: Minister of State for Coal Pratik Patil on Wednesday said proposals for setting up new coal facilities are pending for want of environmental clearance.

"As environmental clearance is not forthcoming to set up new coal units, their establishment is pending even though there is a huge demand for coal," Patil told reporters after visiting 11 incline mining site at Godavarikhani industrial area here.

Stating coal reserves in the country will be sufficient for another 100 years, the minister stressed the need for shifting from conventional thermal projects.

"Coal reserves in India will be sufficient for 100 years more. The need of the hour is for commissioning new projects based on solar, power and hydel," he said.

Singareni Collieries Company Chief Managing Director Sutheerth Bhattacharya and other officials were also present at the meet.
