NALCO, IREL sign MoU for titanium slag plant in Odisha

The project is being planned as a joint venture for which feasibility study & technology selection would be carried out soon.

KOLKATA: State owned aluminium major, National Aluminium Co. Ltd. ( NALCO) has entered into a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with Indian Rare Earths Ltd ( IREL), a company under Department of Atomic Energy for jointly setting up a one lakh tonne per annum titanium slag plant at Odisha Sand Complex at Chatrapur in Odisha.

The project is being planned as a joint venture for which feasibility study & technology selection would be carried out soon.

It envisages value addition to ilmenite to produce Titanium Slag which is an intermediate product for making titanium sponge and titanium pigments, according to a statement issued by NALCO.

Ansuman Das, chairman and managing director, NALCO and Dr R.N. Patra, chairman and managing director of IREL, signed the MoU on Tuesday in Mumbai, in the presence of senior officials of both the companies.
