Mineral output in India grew 4.2% during April-August

The output of key minerals in the month of August included 580 lakh tonnes of coal, 29 lakh tonnes of lignite, 2,829 million cu m of natural gas (utilised), 24 lakh tonnes of petroleum (crude) and 14.5 lakh tonnes of bauxite.

Mineral output in India cumulatively rose 4.2 per cent in the first five months of the current financial year over the same period a year ago, provisional data from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) showed.

The output of key minerals in the month of August included 580 lakh tonnes of coal, 29 lakh tonnes of lignite, 2,829 million cu m of natural gas (utilised), 24 lakh tonnes of petroleum (crude) and 14.5 lakh tonnes of bauxite.

In August, however, the index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector, at 99.6, was 3.9 per cent below the levels seen in August a year ago.


During the month under review, coal, lead conc, zinc conc and limestone showed positive growth.

On the other hand, natural gas (U), manganese ore, petroleum (crude) and magnesite were the key minerals that showed negative growth in August.
