Incidentally, Odisha accounts for about 98% of the total proved chromite (chromium ore) reserves of the country, of which about 97% occur in the Sukinda Valley.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayant Misra, Director & COO said: “This is another pioneering step by IMFA in line with our commitment to underground mining in Sukinda Valley. We are grateful to DGMS for their guidance in establishing the ‘Rescue Room’. With trained personnel and specialised equipment, this facility is equipped to deal with unforeseen situations." IMFA is also the only lessee operating in the mining area to have installed an automated wheel washing system and mist canons to safeguard against environmental hazards.
