Land acquisition, R&R, law-order major constraints for CIL: Bapu Patil

NEW DELHI: Delay in release of forest land and possession of acquired land, inadequate evacuation arrangement, resettlement and rehabilitation problems and poor law and order condition in mining areas are the major constraints faced Coal India Ltd, minister of state for coal Pratik Prakash Bapu Patil said on Monday.

The constraints are being brought to the notice of the state and central government for early removal, Patil said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

There are also delays in the development of coal evacuation infrastructure facilities leading to slow progress of mining projects especially in coalfields like North Karunpura, Mand Raigarh, Talcher and Ib Valley Coalfields, he said.

He said the issues are regularly discussed in the central government at various levels and are also taken up with the concerned state governments.

The government has identified critical rail projects for coal transportation. The issues relating to environmental clearance of projects are taken up with the ministry of environment and forests and law and order issues have been taken up with state governments.

The resettlement and rehabilitation policy of Coal India has been recently revised with more liberal approach, Patil said.
