Innovative Job in Slag Granulation Plant of BF-4 of RSP
The unit cools and granulates the liquid slag coming out during a casting using a compact system comprising big pumps and dewatering systems.
In case of any abnormal situation the casting cannot be stopped abruptly thereby liquid slag without any water will damage the equipment present nearby and may also pose explosion hazards. The existing system takes into account this situation and an emergency water system is in place which takes care of the power failure needs for a short period of time till the slag is diverted to the pots. The pneumatic actuation system of the same valve which used to fail very often was causing trouble in smooth functioning of the system.
The team worked towards solving the problem with a systematic approach. In this scheme the drive has been converted into a hydraulically operated device which opens the valve as soon as the power fails. Major parts of the new system have been salvaged from in-house resources, they said. Modifications have been made to make this system additionally reliable for the mud gun hydraulics. The electric connection has been suitably done by the group to create an alarm and signaling of the valve position. The projected saving through this project is about Rs 50 lakh per annum.
