Hindalco Industries expands specialty Alumina portfolio

The facility was set up with an investment of ₹400 crore, sources aware of the development said. Hindalco is also expected to commission several more specialty alumina facilities over the next few months, they said.
These facilities are likely to have a combined annual capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes, taking Hindalco's total specialty alumina capacity to over 900,000 tonnes, the sources said.

Hindalco Industries did not respond to an ET query until press time.
The global specialty alumina market is currently estimated at more than 8 million tonnes, with Hindalco accounting for around 9-10% of the market, analysts said. The superfine precipitated aluminium trihydrate manufactured at Belagavi helps suppress flame propagation and smoke.
