Government denotifies MMTC, STC for urea import

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification said that in addition to Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd, import of urea is allowed through National Fertilisers Limited and Indian Potash Limited (IPL).

The government has de-notified Metals & Minerals Trading Corporation of India, and State Trading Corporation as the State Trading Enterprises for the import of urea. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification said that in addition to Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd, import of urea is allowed through National Fertilisers Limited and Indian Potash Limited (IPL).

“However, IPL is allowed to import urea on government account till March 31, 2022 only. Henceforth, the MMTC and STC are de-notified as STE for import of urea,” the DGFT said.

As per the notification, the import of technical grade urea meant for non-agricultural purpose/industrial use/NPK manufacturing remains free as before.
