Essel Mining's Koira Iron Ore Mine gets 5 star rating from government

5 Star Rating is given to mining cos for confirming with standards of operation and for he implementation of the Sustainable Development Framework.

MUMBAI: Aditya Birla Group-owned Essel Mining’s Koira Iron Ore Mine got 5 star rating by the Indian government's Indian Bureau of Mines, the company said in a press statement.

The 5 Star Rating is given to mining companies for confirming with the standards of operation and for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Framework inclusive of community engagement.

The criteria chosen for the recognition are managing impacts at the mine level, final/progressive mine closure & landscape restoration, addressing social impacts of R&R (rehabilitation & resettlement) requirements, community engagement & welfare programmes, and assurance & reporting.

Odisha-based Essel Mining is one of India's largest iron ore mining companies and has also made forays into coal and dolomite mining. Koira mine produces 4 million tonne iron ore per annum.
