Coal ministry meeting stakeholders to assess impact of Supreme Court judgment

The ministry will, however, wait for the top court's September 1 verdict on the matter to finalise its plan, government sources said.

New Delhi: The coal ministry is holding talks with top officials of the ministries of power, steel, finance and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion to assess the impact of the Supreme Court's judgement on coal block allotment.

The coal ministry wants to draw up a broad strategy to tackle the ramifications of the court’s order on Monday that declared allocation of all 218 coal blocks made since 1993 as “illegal and arbitrary”.

The ministry will, however, wait for the top court's September 1 verdict on the matter to finalise its plan, government sources said.

Coal Secretary SK Srivastava, along with other senior officials, are holding a series of meetings with officials of other ministries. No corporate executive, either from state-run or private companies, has yet been called for talks, the sources said.
