INTUC is one of the largest unions at Coal India but has not been made part of the committee formed to negotiate salary because its identity has been challenged in the court.

The Indian National Trade Union Congress ( INTUC) unit at Coal India has declared a 3-day strike from Oct 6 to seek more favourable terms from the management over employment of family members of accident victims, gratuity and pension amounts, overtime and a 25% salary hike.

INTUC is one of the largest unions at Coal India but has not been made part of the committee formed to negotiate salary because its identity has been challenged in the court.

Nevertheless, the union wants inclusion of a clause that stipulates employment for family members of employees involved in accidents that are fatal or leave them handicapped. The management wants the clause removed.

The strike would be preceded by a five-day work to rule and demonstrations at Coal India offices.

“We want 25% salary hike along with a 4% increase in basic salary each year and continuation of existing allowances including underground allowance for working in underground mines.
