Coal India supplying crushed coal to power plants: Anil Swarup

State-run Coal India is providing crushed coal to all power plants from January 1, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said on Friday.

NEW DELHI: State-run Coal India is providing crushed coal to all power plants from January 1, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said on Friday.

Crushing reduces the overall top-size of the run-of-mine coal, so that it can be more easily handled and processed within the captive power plants.

“As Coal India moves towards double-digit growth in coal production, crushed coal being provided to all power plants from 1st of Jan,” Swarup tweeted. The move is aimed at checking quality of coal supplied by Coal India.

The government had last month approved empanelling independent agencies to check the quality of coal supplied by Coal India Ltd power firms.

The ministry had authorised Central Institute for Mining and Fuel Research to empanel third-party sampling agencies through a transparent process.
