Coal India Ltd to set up 16 washeries

Washeries will reduce the quantity of ash and other irrelevant components from coal and make it as competitive as imported coal, the statement said.

NEW DELHI: State-run Coal India Ltd has decided to set up 16 washeriesin its various subsidiaries to improve its quality.

The company will set up the washeries in with 92 million tonnes per annum capacity in four states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, an official statement issued on Tuesday said.

The washeries will reduce the quantity of ash and other irrelevantcomponents from coal and make it as competitive as imported coal, the statement said.

Presently, the company has 17 washeries of 39.40 million tonnes per annum capacity.
