CIL to talk to ArcelorMittal if directed by government
Coal India Ltd may talk to ArcelorMittal for a JV in abandoned and unexplored mines, if govt gave the green signal.
"Arcelor Mittal wants to have joint venture with CIL in abandoned mines and unexplored reserves for which we need to have a dialogue with them. If the government directs us, we will talk to them," Bhattacharya told reporters here last night.
Public sector CIL, he said, could not enter into a joint venture on a nomination basis unless directed by the government. "We follow expression of interest route for any joint venture company."
The company, he said, has asked the Central Mine Planning Development Institute to give details about abandoned mines and their reserves.
Asked whether Reliance Industries approached CIL for a joint venture for coal to liquid project, the CIL Chairman said some officials of Reliance had met him on the project, but concrete dialogue was not held. "We cannot enter into any joint venture without EoI route. But we told them that we are interested in surface coal gassification project."
