Chhattisgarh govt attaches Balco properties

Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday attached properties worth Rs 10 crore of aluminium giant Balco for non-payment of dues of the state government, official sources said.

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday attached properties worth Rs 10 crore of aluminium giant Balco for non-payment of dues of the state government, official sources said.

"Aluminium ingot, worth over Rs 10 crore of Balco was attached on Wednesday for non payment of dues to the state government," official sources told media from Korba district headquarters.

Earlier, Korba district collector had issued notices to the Sterlite led Balco on April 13, last to pay a royalty of Rs 8.63 crore for extracting benedium sludge during processing of alumina from bauxite, sources said.

The district administration had issued the final notice on May 16, last to deposit the royalty, they said adding, on non-payment of royalty, the administration today attached the aluminium ingot from the premises of Balco located in Korba district headquarters of Chhattisgarh.

When contacted, Balco spokesman Deepak Pachpore said refused to comment.
