New Delhi: The Bihar government is looking to bid out the proposed 2,400 MW coal-based power project at Pirpainti by March with coal linkage likely to come from nearby Eastern Coalfields Ltd, people aware of the development told ET.

The development of the Pirpainti project was announced in the FY25 budget. The Centre had said power projects, including Pirpainti, would be taken up at a cost of ₹21,400 crore.

The state will go for bidding under the category of projects where fuel and location are pre-decided, a senior government official told ET.

Discussions are on to provide coal to the plant through the Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India (SHAKTI) and is likely to be finalised in February, another official said. Apart from coal linkage, the Centre will also help with expediting environmental clearances, a senior government official said.
