ArcelorMittal representatives meet CIL chairman
Representatives of global steel major ArcelorMittal had met CIL Chairman Partha Sarathi Bhattacharya showing interest in striking a joint venture with state-run Coal India Ltd.
The two representatives of ArcelorMittal had called on Bhattacharya at the CIL headquarters here on Saturday.
When contacted, CIL sources said that their meeting with Bhattacharya was mainly a 'courtesy call' but said that the issue of extraction of coal from abandoned mines might have been figured in their discussion.
ArcelorMittal had shown interest in striking a JV with Coal India for extraction of coal from abandoned mines and written to the Coal ministry also.
The sources said that the ArcelorMittal representatives might hold talks with CIL Director (technical) N C Jha in Delhi next week.
