Rockwell Collins to set up engineering centre in Hyderabad
US-based aerospace and defence technology solutions provider Rockwell Collins is setting up an engineering centre with an aim to shift a part of its global development in India.
"The decision to enter India has been motivated by access to high quality engineering talent, besides the cost savings," Rockwell Collins Vice-President Global Technology Raj K Aggarwal said.
He said the company's engineering centre at Hyderabad, which would be operational in October this year, would start with a strength of 20 engineers
"In five years' time, we plan to increase the number to 500, and initially we will be focusing on displays development and flight management assistance products," he added.
Aggarwal, however, declined to comment on the company's investments and sales expectation in India.
"Last year, the group turnover was about $4.42 billion and contribution from India was less than one per cent," he said.
It currently supplies solutions to private carriers, including IndiGo and Jetlite.
He said the company was also looking for more collaborations in India.
"We do have an existing partnership with HCL, but we are also in talks with TCS and some public sector units such as Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd and Electronics Corporation of India Ltd," Aggarwal added.
Besides, the company is also looking for more defence supply, he said, adding that it has already put in a bid for supplying radio for ground communication for the Indian Air Force. "It is currently being evaluated," he added.
The company had set up a liaison office two months back.
