Rice Lake Weighing to expand India operations with Strategic Weighing

SWSL recently signed a JV agreement with RLWS, the largest North American Company in the field of weighing and weight related engineering solutions.

CHENNAI: Chennai-based Strategic Weighing Systems (SWSL), part of Kolkata's Jalan group, headed by Sudhir Jalan, plans to leverage its joint venture with US-based Rice Lake Weighing Systems Inc (RLWS) to get the latest technology and expand the range of products.

SWSL recently signed a JV agreement with RLWS, the largest North American Company in the field of weighing and weight related engineering solutions, the company said in a statement.

Both partners have an equal stake in the venture. It will get the state of art technology from the US company and expand its reach in the field of weighing to Asia, West Asia and Africa.

The JV will be developing the Rice Lake brand in India and other markets and continue to cater to all SWSL’s existing lines of business. The tie up also envisages the setting up of a new manufacturing facility near Chennai to make the current and RLWS range of products, the release said.

It is said this is the first JV for the family owned RLWS operational since 1946 and employing 400 people. SWSL has nearly three decades of experience in the field of electronic in- motion and static rail weighing systems, truck weighbridges, Pebco range of material handling equipment and Zeppelin batching and process control systems for tyre, technical rubber goods industries in India.

The Jalan group, established in the early 1930’s has diversified business interests like the manufacture of engineering goods, textile machinery, food condiments, software development, cultivation and processing of tea. It employs 3600 people in various locations.
