MUMBAI: Patel Engineering has bagged Rs 143.59 crore from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for construction of a tunnel.

The project involves construction of a tunnel from Veravail to Yari Road via Adarsh Nagar in the suburbs of Mumbai, Patel Engineering informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The tunnel would be around 6.1 km long of 2.8 metres diameter.

"Going forward, we believe that urban infrastructure will gain momentum as huge investments are expected in various aspects of urban infrastructure including water supply and treatment systems, drainage systems and local transport infrastructure," Patel Engineering Whole Time Director Sonal Patel said.

The company would use Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the construction work, which would facilitate the drilling of up to 50 meters below ground level without disturbing the building and traffic in the surrounding area.
