MUMBAI: Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) and engineering & construction major L&T, are likely to form a joint venture company to manufacture forging materials entailing an investment of Rs 1,500-2,000 crore.

The two companies have taken a decision to form the joint venture, but are yet to finalise other details, NPCIL's Executive Director (Corporate Planning), Sudhinder Thakur, told reporters on the sidelines of a power seminar organised by the CII here.

"A decision has been taken by both parties to form a joint venture, but nothing has been finalised yet," Thakur said, adding that approvals from the Government is at 'various stages'.

However, when contacted an L&T official told PTI that any opportunity in the power sector for equipment supply is interesting to the engineering & construction major, but declined to confirm or deny the proposed venture with NPCIL.

"We don't want to deny or confirm this particular development," the official said.
