L&T bags Rs 1,300-crore order from Cairn India

Larsen & Toubro Ltd has been awarded two major contracts by Cairn India for the civil works and consolidated construction works for the Northern Area Development Project near Barmer in Rajasthan.

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro Ltd has been awarded two major contracts by Cairn India for the civil works and consolidated construction works for the Northern Area Development Project near Barmer in Rajasthan. The contracts are together worth Rs 1,300 crore.

The scope of work covers development of infrastructure facilities, construction of 18 well pad structures, detailed engineering and construction of all civil and electromechanical works at the Mangala and Raageshwari fields, offsite infrastructure facilities, supply, installation and commissioning of 33 KVA high voltage power line system and the telecom network. The project completion schedule is estimated to be 18 months.

The government has given Cairn, along with ONGC, approval for development plans for the Mangala, Aishwarya, Saraswati and Raageshwari fields. The initial focus will be to bring Mangala onstream at the earliest, which is currently scheduled for 2009, with the other fields following.

Cairn Energy India has drilled more than 140 wells and has made more than 20 discoveries to date in Rajasthan. Cairn has a resource base of 3.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place. The implementation of the field developmental activities will lead to a step change in oil production levels for the company when its targeted production level of 150,000 bopd is reached. At 11:28 am, L&T shares were up 0.65 per cent at Rs 4,272.10 on BSE. Cairn India stock was up 1.68 per cent at Rs 265.65
